Artist Biography
I began painting in Japan in 1976 where we lived for six years. I studied Sumie (Japanese Brush Painting) as a hobby. At that time I actively studied Japanese Cultural Arts, i.e., Japanese Tea Ceremony, Japanese Antique Identification, Cooking as well as Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arranging). In 1980 we moved to Germany where I studied Watercolor with a local German Artist, taking University Art Classes whenever possible such as, Art History. My art career began as a traditional representational painter; however, my work now is largely abstract and mixed media.
My exhibitions have included one-man shows in Philadelphia and Pottstown, PA; Ramstein-Miesenbach, Kindsbach, and Vogelweh, Germany. In addition to gallery exhibitions in Golden and Denver, I have juried into various shows in Colorado and Arizona.
My professional associations include the Colorado Watercolor Society where I am a Signature Member. In addition I have affiliations with the Foothills Art Center,Park Hill Art Guild, and The Society of Layerists and Multi-Media.
Artist's statement
As an artist living in Colorado I find delightful inspiration by just walking out on my deck and looking at the view. I find a peaceful, colorful, scenic place to practice my art here in the Front Range of the RockyMountains.
My work in water media collage and mixed media comes spontaneously from my imagination. I paint intuitively without models or photographs to influence my inner perceptions. My paintings are about the celebration of life. I work with lines, shapes and colors to enhance the composition, never knowing what the outcome will be. The finished painting is an emerging art work which can be interpreted by the experience the viewer brings to the piece of art.
